About Me

“I’ve been sewing and making my own garments since I was ten.”

Hi, I’m Hania. I’m based in Devon and I’m studying a BTEC Art Diploma at Callywith College, specialising in Textiles. I got a Distinction in my first year and I’m now in my second year, finishing in summer 2027.

I’m especially interested in costume making for theatre, film and television. I love the practical side of making, experimenting with fabrics and working out how to turn a creative idea into something real.

Royal Ballet and Opera

Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London · Fabric and Haberdashery Stockroom

A chance to experience a professional theatre costume environment from the inside. My time in the stockroom gave me an insight into the fabrics, materials, trims and haberdashery used in costume production, and into the behind-the-scenes organisation and processes that support professional opera and ballet productions.

Recent Travels

Athens, Greece

The haberdashery quarter

I recently visited Athens and spent time in its famous haberdashery quarter, exploring the fabric shops and sourcing materials.

I loved talking to the vendors about their experience of supplying theatres across Greece and Europe. It was fascinating to hear how fabrics and trims find their way from these shops onto the stage.

I also spent time studying how centuries of Greek culture have shaped costume and dress, from the draped garments carved on ancient statues like the Caryatids to the silhouettes and fabrics that still inspire designers today.
